This newsletter will keep you up to date on the latest Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) capabilities, including upcoming events, and our newest awesome classes!

2018 Year in Review - In this newsletter, we’ll briefly go over some awesome events that happened in the world of FEA and CFD last year, as well as a little insight into the year ahead!

Ansys Discovery Live gives instant CAE results

ANSYS launched a new CAE App called “Discovery Live”, which was built from the ground up to leverage GPU solving for instant results. It’s kind of a big deal.

Autodesk's Nastran in-CAD keeps getting better

AUTODESK continues to increase the capability of FEA in Inventor, through “Nastran In-CAD” by porting NASA’s famous software into their native 3D CAD environment. Use it and go launch something in space!

Onshape App Store has deep bench of FEA & CFD

ONSHAPE now has 8 different FEA/CFD simulation apps in their App Store and spent 2018 pushing 18 updates to their web-based CAD platform last year, for a total of 327 total individual improvements! Holy Schnikes!

PTC Creo's capabilities are skyrocketing with new Ansys partnership

PTC was so impressed with Ansys’s Discovery Live App, that they are going to offer it as an embedded tool in their flagship CAD tool, Creo Parametric. Partnerships FTMFW!

Simscale's new GUI sets the bar for cloud-based-CAE

SIMSCALE launched their new Pre-Processor Interface called Workbench which literally makes you forget that you are working in a web browser. Engineering in a browser window is so hot right now.

Simsolid's meshless FEA is the fastest solver we've ever tested

SIMSOLID, a crazy fast meshless FEA solver which we test drove a couple years ago, was purchased by Altair in 2018. Congrats!

Brand new advanced FEA capabilities for SOLIDWORKS's usersScreen Shot 2019-01-24 at 2.27.15 PM

SOLIDWORKS has been developing new advanced FEA software called “Simulia SSE”. It’s like Abaqus (Solidworks Simulation’s big brother) but for those who don’t need the full capability of Dassault’s flagship FEA tool. We test drove it, and it’s awesome. Meet us at Solidworks World in February to hear our story!

New Classes from Fastway:
We develop our own in-house curriculum for FEA and CFD. Here are a few of our newest classes!

  • AUTODESK CFD: Last year we launched our Autodesk CFD class which focuses on the fundamentals of Subsonic Fluid Dynamics, Meshing, and Turbulence. The third day of class, which covers heat transfer, is an option for those in industries like Electronics Cooling.
  • PTC CREO SIMULATE: What happens after yielding? Analyze Plasticity, Hyperelastic rubbers and foams, and Frictional Contact in our New Nonlinear FEA Class. In addition, for those in industries like Aerospace and Automotive, where reliability is king, our new Dynamics Class will shed some light on Shock and Vibration.

Upcoming Classes & Events:

  • February 11: Learn how we quantified the comfort of headphones using Nonlinear FEA at Solidworks World in Dallas!
  • February 15: Get a better look at the big picture in our monthly Lunch n Learn: Design Frameworks for Hardware Product Development (Part of our education partnership with mHUB).
  • February 22: We’re excited to return to the Polsky Exchange to talk to their members about the differences between prototyping and manufacturing. (Hint: it’s not just the volume!)
  • March 11-13: Introduce yourself to Stress Analyses using PTC Creo Simulate (at mHUB Chicago)
